Sunday Morning Meditation

The Power of a Positive Mind

Sundays | 10 – 11:30am

Cost: $10 (Free for Members)

About the class

Whatever we hold in our mind, moment by moment, creates the experiences we have moment by moment. If we want our experiences to be positive ones, we have to be aware of what kinds of thoughts and feelings we’re focused on.
In How to Understand the Mind, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, says “There is no practice more important than keeping our mind free from negativity.” Why is that? We know from our own experience that from our own negative minds, such as anger, jealousy and discouragement come a negative perception of our world, of ourself or of others which lead us to creating more negativity for ourselves and for others.
In this series, we will learn how to transform our negative states of mind into beneficial states of mind that will clearly bring peace into our heart and will allow us naturally to engage in positive, virtuous actions that lead to actual happiness.
Each class begins with a guided meditation to settle the mind followed by practical advice from Buddha’s teachings on how to develop and maintain positive, peaceful states of mind. We then have an opportunity to reflect on that advice in a second meditation and decide how we are going to put that insight or determination into practice in our daily lives.

Everyone is welcome to any of these classes. No special experience necessary.
